9 Alternatives to Halloween Candy

Who doesn’t love Halloween candy? As a kid I loved going trick or treating to get all the candy!! From a healthy stand point, all that sugar is terrible for your health and teeth!

Sugar isn’t the only additive in candy that is worrisome. You have to worry about soy, color dyes, peanuts, aspartame, and other allergens. Soy is a hormone disruptor, as it acts as a weak estrogen and has some health concerns for long term use. Different dyes in food and candy items can have a serious effect in some people. Example, yellow dye number 5 is a antagonist to people with asthma (meaning it will make your asthma worse).

So I have put together a list of candy alternatives for trick-or-treaters:

1. Vampire Teeth

My kids just went trick-or-treating downtown El Reno and both got teeth! Carder has been asking for vampire teeth since we got an Oriental Trading Post magazine in the mail. Luckily, they both got some!

2. Witches fingers

Another item Carder got downtown El Reno was a witches finger. Unfortunately Addison didn’t get one, so he has been hiding it from her.

3. Bouncy Balls

My kids love bouncy balls! They are hours of entertainment. (Except when they get bounced into the sink drain…. Which the shop vac with a pair of stockings on the end came in handy soon after!)

4. Spider and Bug Rings

What little kid doesn’t love fake plastic bug rings?! I know I did as a kid!! But, as an adult I have thought the spider ring was real at first glance. I may or may not have screamed a little!

5. Halloween Pencils

With adult supervision of course…. My kids love to draw and color! I have so many Halloween pencils I could probably hand them out this year without having to buy more!

6. Honey sticks

Great alternative to refined sugar. A natural sugar with health benefits! My daughter absolutely loves them, my son…. Not so much.

7. Bubbles

You can even make your own stickers to add to the front of the bubbles to dress them up for Halloween.

8. Popcorn

Popcorn is a fun alternative. There are some superior brands now for popcorn that are more concerned with health. Check out ” Top 30 best popcorns“. Not all popcorn is created equal.

9. Glow in the Dark Tattoos or Bracelets

These are just too much fun! My kids love temporary tattoos. As well as, who doesn’t wanna feel like they are at a disco party with glowing bracelets?!

Yes this picture is from 4th of July…. But it still applies, glow bracelets are awesome!
