Should You Replace Your Vegetable Oil

Do you have vegetable oil in your house? What is vegetable oil? Vegetable oil is derived from crushing various types of fruits, seeds, grains, and nuts. Some are more healthy than others.

Virgin olive oil is cold pressed and the oil comes out, is filtered and ready to use. Other oils go through a much more complex process that includes mixing with chemicals (hexane) and having the solids removed.

There are many different oils that fall under the category of “vegetable oil”. The processed seed oils comes from soybeans, sunflower, corn, canola, cottonseed and safflower (to name a few). These oils are pro-inflammatory because they have high ratios of omega-6 fatty acids.

Reasons to cut out pro-inflammatory oils

Being in a pro-inflammatory state causes pain. Inflammation causes many issues within the body (that can be cured or helped by making sure you have an anti-inflammatory diet).

Omega 6 fats not only cause inflammation in the body, but reduce availability of anti-inflammatory omega 3 fats in your tissues, resulting in more inflammation. Consuming a diet high in omega-6’s can lead to many issues including:

  • Heart disease
  • PCOS
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Metabolic syndrome or pre-diabetes
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Inflammatory bowel syndrome
  • Macular degeneration (eye damage and blindness)
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Asthma
  • Cancer
  • Psychiatric disorders
  • Autoimmune disease

Other Options

PCOS Diet

Much better healthier options are: coconut oil, lard, or ghee for high temperature cooking (deep frying/baking); and using butter, olive oil, avocado oil, or macadamia nut oil for low temperature cooking (stir frying), or to have cold in a dressing.

Chiropractic

If you have questions on any pains you are having give us or a chiropractor near you a call!
