When You Shouldn’t Ignore Symptoms

Ever have a pain and think, “It will go away.”? How long does that usually take? What do you do for it? Do you baby the area of pain, take more pain pills, use ice or heat?

What if I told you if the pain goes away, it will be back and it WILL be worse next time. Either in time duration or pain intensity. It’s a lot like bending a piece of steel. You can bend it, but the over use of it will eventually make it break. Then it will take a bit to weld it back together and it will always have issues.

Or another analogy could be like a flickering light. Do you just let the light flicker? Or do you try to figure out why the light is flickering? What happens if you leave the light alone and continue to flicker? Could it be an electrical short and cause other electrical problems if you let it go?

Leaving it alone

Everyone has at one point or another had a “pain” that they let go to “heal” on it’s own. Yes, the body heals itself, much like a cut healing itself. Muscles get sore after working out and in a couple of days will be fine. But when should you actually take notice and do something about it?

Pain is usually rated on a 0-10 pain scale. 0- There is no pain at all. 1- minimal pain, increasing in number as you get to 10. 10- is an emergency, not functioning, worst pain you’ve ever had and possible hospital pain.

Pain that is in the yellow to red should not be ignored! When you have injured yourself, the body will flood the area of injury with blood. Blood brings in healing elements, oxygen, and padding to the area for protection. But with more blood in the area, there is more swelling, and swelling=pain!

If you take pain pills or an anti-inflammatory to combat the pain, the body will be okay for a time (that is if the pain pill helps). Most likely though, you don’t know exactly what you did to injure yourself. So you will keep re-injuring the area and will cause the body to start putting down extra calcium in areas of excess stress. This is seen as degeneration on x-rays or spurs in shoulders, necks, backs, knees…

If you would have figured out what was causing the pain the first time, you could save your bones from degeneration! Imagine a car’s tire alignment. If you hit a curb, and knock the alignment off even just a little what happens? The tires will tend to wear more on one side. But, if you get an alignment on your car, the tires will wear equally and last longer.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic care realigns your body to help it function at it’s optimal level. People often think if you go once, you will have to go forever. Simply not true. It is smart to continue a wellness based plan (once a month), to keep the spine healthy, your immune system boosted, and to keep any issues of pain non-existent. But, you do not have to be a life long patient, but preventative care is MUCH cheaper than sick care.

If you have any signs of pain, tingling, numbness, or burning, your body is already starting to degenerate. Degeneration can be bone spurs, decreased disc height, reduced cervical or lumbar curve, scoliosis, and many other things.

Problems that arise are much easier to correct when they are new, rather than years old. Year old pains can take months to correct and may never become 100% better. If you have a short lived pain, it could take as few as a week or two worth of treatments. Chiropractic care helps aide the body to. heal quicker and corrects issues from becoming serious problems.

If you have any questions on what chiropractic can do for you, give us or a chiropractor near you a call! Investing in your body is investing in your future health!
