Apple Cider Vinegar

Have you ever tried apple cider vinegar? Did you know that apple cider vinegar has so many good properties! Although it can be hard to drink, there are other ways to put it in your diet. You can get organic, unfiltered and/or raw vinegar. Unfiltered will have “mother” in the vinegar. Mother is the extra sediment floating in the bottom of the jar.

Vinegars date back thousands of years for their healing properties. Hippocrates used vinegar to fight infections, treat wounds, and help alleviate coughs.

Apple cider vinegar is a type of vinegar made from apple cider that has undergone fermentation to form health-promoting probiotics and enzymes This gives it less sugar and fewer calories than apple cider or apple juice. It only takes one to two tablespoons of ACV to take advantage of the health benefits of apple cider vinegar.

Benefits

Studies show that taking ACV can aid in weight loss, lower blood sugar, improve cholesterol and symptoms of diabetes, as well as, other health benefits.

Weight Loss

Due to its properties it can be taken as a drink or a supplement, both contain the same amount of its active ingredient, acetic acid. Acetic acid can inhibit fat deposition and increase metabolism. In one study, consuming just two tablespoons per day of ACV over 12 weeks resulted in nearly 4 pounds of weight loss with no other modifications to diet or lifestyle! It can also curb cravings which help you eat less. If you consume it before eating, it can help you feel more satisfied after meals as it reduces post meal blood sugar levels.

Decrease Blood Sugar

One study concluded that the products main active ingredient, acetic acid, can decrease blood sugar levels when mixed with olive oil. The response displayed a 34% decrease in healthy adults after eating a meal heavy in carbohydrates, which increases blood sugar levels.

Helps Blood Pressure

Apple cider vinegar benefits your blood pressure levels. An animal study in Japan showed that giving rats acetic acid, (the main component in vinegar) resulted in lower levels of blood pressure. Another animal study had similar findings, demonstrating that vinegar effectively blocked the actions of a specific enzyme that raises blood pressure. Other natural ways to lower blood pressure include increasing your intake of magnesium and potassium, upping your fiber intake and swapping the salt and processed foods for whole foods.

Lowers Cholesterol

Improving cholesterol and triglycerides levels are great for your health. Evidence shows that users of apple cider vinegar saw a decrease in cholesterol. Those who took the apple cider vinegar supplements also had an increased level of high density lipoprotein, known as good cholesterol.

Helps the Gut

During the fermentation process, apple cider vinegar creates probiotic organisms such as lactobacillus. This probiotic plays an important role in human health, especially for your gut. It produces lactic acid which acts as a barrier for bacteria and inhibits it from growing, preventing bacterial infections and other associated diseases.

Allergies and Colds

You use apple cider vinegar for seasonal allergies and when you feel like you are getting sick. The healthy bacteria found in ACV can promote immunity and support healthy lymphatic drainage to decrease seasonal sniffles and allergies.

How to Take it

You can mix apple cider vinegar with honey to make it a little more tolerable. Honey also has many health benefits and the two combined are a good source of B vitamins and probiotics. It can help with indigestion, clear skin and detoxing the body.

Mixing apple cider vinegar with lemon can help curb appetite. (Which obviously aids in weight loss.) It helps by improving your metabolic rate and reducing water retention.

You can mix 2 tablespoons of ACV with 8 ounces of water. Or you can take a supplement that has a powdered form of ACV, as well as, there are now gummies that can be chewed.

Apple cider vinegar and baking soda can help with digestion. It helps make the body more alkaline and is good for environmental stress by improving inflammation.

The Facts

Apple cider has so many good vitamins and minerals. Here are just a few:

Types of ACV

Organic: means that it’s free of genetically modified organisms and synthetic additives that can actually do more harm than good in terms of your health.

Raw: is unheated and unprocessed. This still has the “mother” intact, which proteins, enzymes and beneficial bacteria often removed during processing. Consuming apple cider vinegar with mother intact ensures that you’re able to maximize the potential health benefits of this powerful ingredient.

Unfiltered: When ACV is filtered, it removes the mother as well as any sediment, leaving behind a clear, amber vinegar.
